AKA 1K Instagram Giveaway

I am a huge fan of Instagram. It’s a place where I can share behind the scenes, reposts of gorgeous ladies wearing their AKA gems and pretty things in general. I’ve even made some great connections and genuine relationships with people I’ve met through Instagram.
This past week AKA hit a huge milestone… AKA reached 1000 followers on Instagram! So in honour of that, I’m hosting an amazing giveaway over at my Instagram page. You could win a White Druzy set that includes earrings and a necklace (both are some of the best selling pieces!)
If you have an Instagram account, the rules are super simple! I’d love it if you entered the giveaway (if you haven’t already)! Enter here!
Good luck!

Meet the Designer

Okay, I need to get better at posting more frequently on here! When I actually sit down to do it, I remember that I really enjoy writing posts and I have a lot of good post ideas too. So from here on out, I will be aiming for one post a week… if I can manage to do more, I will but let’s start at one.
I spend a lot of time by myself which means I spend a lot of time thinking. As I think about how far AKA has come (still far to go), I’ve realized that it’s not just my close family and friends who are visiting the blog and website and it’s amazing. So, I figured it’s a good time to introduce myself. You may have read a bit about AKA on our About Page but I think we can get a little more personal now.
10 Things About Alex…
  1. I grew up dreaming about having my own boutique and working in fashion some way or another but never thought it was realistic. Instead of going after that dream, I went to school for Human Resources and worked as a Recruiter. I loved that job and it was an amazing foundation for my work life today. A lot of credit to my success goes to the team at EN.
  2. In case you didn’t already assume this, I used my name as my business name. However, my middle name isn’t actually Kathlyn… It was supposed to be but ended up changing to Courtney last minute.
  3. I lived in Quebec for the summer between grade 11 & 12. It was that time that ignited my love for travel and showed me the world was much bigger than my small town bubble. After high school, I moved to England for a year with intentions of staying longer. It was during that year I learned to appreciate where I came from.
  4. I met my husband while going to school for HR. If someone told me 5 years ago that I was going to get married to a farmer and move out of the city, I wouldn’t have believed them. (PS – I didn’t think I’d love this life as much as I do.)
  5. I never enjoyed cooking or gardening until I got married and we bought our own home. I have made some fantastic meals (thank you Pinterest) in the last little while. I even managed to make quinoa taste good! I still struggle with this ‘chores’ but at least I like doing them more than I did before.
  6. I am always thinking about business and my brain never seems to shut off. I have so many lists of what I need to do, what I want to do… New marketing ideas, what I’m going to post on social media, how to improve processes, what I want to make next, ideas to expand. The lists go on and on.
  7. To help calm my brain down, I joined the local yoga community and started using essential oils. I always wanted to take classes but never seemed to get around to it while I lived in the city. I joined my first class in town this Spring. I am SO thankful for Amber (yoga instructor & Friend) and the class. These two things have been so important with balancing my life.
  8. Have a mentioned I’m bit of a magpie? I love anything that sparkles, shimmers, or just pretty in general. (I think my jewelry seems to reflect that too) I can’t go to Target, Indigo or Winners without walking out with a pile of pretty things. Anything with glitter on it or if it’s gold, it seems to come home with me.
  9. I have an insane phobia of creatures (fish, octopus, anything else creepy) that live in water. Even going to the aquarium part of a pet store gives me anxiety.
  10. When I was 22 I had the opportunity to take Dale Carnegie Training. It was {a lot} nerve-racking for a young HR professional to join a class with many successful people who had been in their industries a long time. I was told it would be life changing and I didn’t really understand how it could be. Within 4 weeks I could already see my life changing and my confidence grow, especially career wise. After the 12 weeks were up, I was asked to coach the next session. Those were some of the most influencial 24 weeks of my life. They were incredibly challenging, awkward, and emotional but so rewarding. {PS – everyone should take this program}
There you go, a little bit more about me, what makes me tick and some background of how I got to where I am.
I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment telling me a bit about yourself and how you heard of AKA!

AKA Month In Photos

Can you believe that it is July 1st already!? June seemed to fly by and it’s hard to believe we are now in the second part of 2014.

For AKA and myself, June was full of excitement.  It started with the Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival where I attended the Pose Marketplace for the second year in a row. It was another breezy day but it was still a great day with a lot of fantastic visitors.  Met a lot of wonderful business owners..talk about some powerhouse women with fabulous businesses!

I was able to take a bit of time away from the business and took a mini-vacay with some girlfriends to Kelowna. It was a much needed trip to unwind, laugh and relax. It was a perfect long weekend!

Also added a lot of new pieces to the ShopAKA website, from new Sale items to brand new Pre-Sale items!

Hope you all have a fantastic Canada Day!  It’s free shipping on all orders today (use code: OhCanada7) 🙂
