AKA Month In Photos

Can you believe that it is July 1st already!? June seemed to fly by and it’s hard to believe we are now in the second part of 2014.

For AKA and myself, June was full of excitement.  It started with the Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival where I attended the Pose Marketplace for the second year in a row. It was another breezy day but it was still a great day with a lot of fantastic visitors.  Met a lot of wonderful business owners..talk about some powerhouse women with fabulous businesses!

I was able to take a bit of time away from the business and took a mini-vacay with some girlfriends to Kelowna. It was a much needed trip to unwind, laugh and relax. It was a perfect long weekend!

Also added a lot of new pieces to the ShopAKA website, from new Sale items to brand new Pre-Sale items!

Hope you all have a fantastic Canada Day!  It’s free shipping on all orders today (use code: OhCanada7) 🙂

Whirlwind Weeks

Happy Saturday! Today I woke up to sunshine (vs the big white snowflakes I woke up to yesterday) and I knew it would be a good day. I grabbed my coffee and decided to reflect on this past week.

This was a particularly exciting week for me. I got back from a quick trip to BC on Monday evening and knew I had a bunch of work to catch up on. Orders to fill, blog posts to write and a website to finish! My to-do list was long and my work week was shorter but I was determined to launch the site May 1st.

After a lot of frustration, time and even more love, the new AKA website went live on Thursday at 7am. I was finally able to share it with you and the rest of the world. It was scary, exciting, exhilarating, and a bit nerve racking.

By 8:30am I had a few happy tears welling in my eyes… I couldn’t believe the response from family, friends, and people I hadn’t even met before. Friend’s sharing my website with all their friends/family and sharing on their blogs and business pages.  I was humbled and honoured by everyone’s support, encouragement and hi-fives.

On top of the website launch, AKA was featured on 2 awesome blogs this week.

The first was Amber Chalus’ A Beautiful Life Blog. Amber is my new friend and yoga instructor and a Beautiful Life Designer.  She is a true beauty – inside and out!

The second was on the MJ&Co blog. MJ&Co are professional Wedding and Portrait photographers located in Saskatoon. I met with this dynamic team (Matt, Janna, & Julie) when I was newly engaged. They were initially my engagement/wedding photographers but soon turned into friends! They have all been huge supporters of AKA and were fabulous at capturing my engagement and wedding!

Make sure you go check out both posts and give them all some love.

So yes, this week was a whirlwind, but it was a fantastic week for Alexandra Kathlyn Accessories. Thank you all for your support – without you, AKA wouldn’t even be possible.

Now, go enjoy the day!

Monday Inspiration

So this post is a wee bit late but still read on!  Mondays can be tough and I know most people don’t really like when the weekend comes to an end. I must be the odd one out because I personally enjoy Mondays. It’s a time to put the previous week’s failures aside, set new goals, work a little harder and enjoy life.  So I’ve decided to do Motivation Monday’s!

Normally it will be a little post to help cheer on the day and give your Monday a little boost. Today’s will be a bit different from the following weeks but let me tell you a little story.

I spent one summer, in between post secondary semesters, working at the local Co-op grocery store. I tried to find something more along the lines of my studies {Human Resources} but that didn’t happen. I dreaded every shift and I felt a pit in my stomach every time I was getting ready for work. I couldn’t actually tell you why I disliked it so much but I just didn’t like going. I was treated decent and I got to meet some nice people but if I didn’t need to pay rent, I would not have gone. {Also, you should have seen the uniform. Not exactly what I was used to} At the end of the day though, I still hated my job. When I gave my 2 weeks notice, it was a very happy day for me. I vowed to never work in a grocery store again {that was why I was going to school, wasn’t it?}.

Fast forward to present day. I’m living in Nipawin and trying to make AKA my career [post here]. Some days are better than others but it’s still hard being this creative entrepreneur… Especially when I have bills and a mortgage to pay and car payments. Today was particularly challenging because I was lacking motivation and wondered how I was going to pay for certain things. Then I looked above my computer to see a poster I taped to the wall…

WorkHarder

This is my daily reminder and motivator to work my butt off so I don’t have to apply for this job. {I have nothing against working there, it’s just not what I want to do for the rest of my life}  I also have little quotes taped around my room but this Produce Clerk positions seems to really light a fire in me. I do not want to go back to working in a grocery store or even in a job that I’m ‘just doing for the money’. I want to do something I love and make a life that means something, something that’s not just about money either.

It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things. ~Leonardo da Vinci
